Questions regarding primary and secondary insurance

I had surgery scheduled back in November, but had to cancel.  Now that we're into 2009, I have a new primary insurance (Kaiser), through my work.  I'm still covered under my husbands Insurance too (Regence PPO).

I had an appointment with Kaiser today, found out they have a 6 month diet requirement, my secondary policy does not.  Both policies will cover RNY.  Is it possible to get my secondary insurance to pay instead of the nightmare with Kaiser?  I'm really frustrated!

I don;t know for sure but I think ins co's have some "rule" that determines which is primary and which is secondary.  Good luck,

Usually, the secondary will not pay unttil the first one does. Which means you'll likely have to comply with Kaiser's rule. In my experience, the only way to use the secondary first is if the primary doesn't cover the procedure.

I deal with insurances on a daily basis, and unfortunately, if you have Kaiser primary to Regence they have to be billed first. If Regence does not know there is other insurance primary, they may pay, but you run the risk of them finding out later and taking their payment back, then Kaiser will have to be billed and if they deny then , you may be responsible for the whole bill. I think I would just do what i have to do for Kaiser.
