I have Anthem BC and have been approved for RnY. However, I think I prefer the VSG. Insurance won't cover VSG because they consider it experimental. It appear to be part of their policy, at least in CA. The only other procedure they will cover is the LapBand, which I'm no thrilled about either.

Self-pay is not an options, unless I want to get my surgery in three or fours years, which I would rather not. Financing is not likely, but possible, and I will research. Going out of the country is definitely not an option.

Anyone had any luck appealing Anthem BC to get the VSG?

I Have Blue Shield of CA - but my surgeon's office told me it was in the Anthem network so i assume that they are tied together somehow.  Anyway mine covers DS - which is what I think I am going to have.  The DS is basically (from what I understand) the sleeve along with shorten on your small intestine.   I would check it out.  You can find more facts on the DS a www.dsfacts.com
