Health insurance rider

Does anyone have experience gettting a rider for your policy to cover WLS?  As it is, any and all WLS is excluded, but in the poicy book, there was a paragraph on riders that will cover exclusions.  Are they difficult to get?  How much do they cost?  Is it even a possibility or is it grasping at straws?  Any help is more than appreciated!

Thanks,
Colleen

Adding a rider to your policy (I'm assuming your policy is through a job?) is something your HR department has to do--you can't just add it to your own policy; it has to be added to everyone's.

If you're talking about an individual policy you have (not through a job), chances are they will NOT cover WLS.

Yes, the last posted is correct. A rider is something that your employer has to add on to your benefits package - and they cannot just add it on to yours, they have to add it on to all their employees plans. The reason they exclude this is because of the cost of adding the rider - it increases the amount they pay significantly as well as puts them at risk for their premiums to increase even more if the insurance plan has to pay for any complications. Some employers feel this financial risk is too much, so they exclude it on your policy.

I work for a company that can help you and other employees get weight loss surgery benefits in a unique way. Click on the article to the right of this forum called ' Other Avenues When Paying Cash' and you will see some ideas. My company basically approached employers who would like to cover weight loss surgery for their employees in a cost-effective way. We help them pay cash for your weight loss surgery directly to one of our BLIS Surgeons with a complication protection plan included - this means that they limit their cost and that their are no hidden costs. It also means both you and your employer are not responsible for the bills of covered complications should one occur in specific time periods following surgery.  Believe it or not, this is a MORE cost effective way for a large employer group to cover weight loss surgery for their employees!
