I was really thinking that this was going to be a struggle with my insurance company.  I just have to post that my personal experience has been great.  I started my journey (referral letter from pcm, seminar, lab work, psych eval, nutritionist visit, x-ray, ultrasound, EKG, surgeon visit, pre op visit) in October.  I worked hard at documenting everything and gathering all the information I could find on my type of surgery (RNY).  I prayed A LOT, asked OH members a lot of questions, and really got a lot of my support on this site.  Also, I kept a "mini-journal" on my notepad application on my computer.  I documented everything, everyone I spoke to, doctor's appointments and all.  This I did in case I had any discrepancies or conflict in services I received.  Luckily, I did not, but I was preparing myself for the worst.  I truly feel blessed as I wait for my surgery date to close in...JAN 28!

Rock On!!! Congratulations.  I have had no problems with Tricare, they have been great.

You will be having surgery on my 13 month surgiversary....which is cool too.

Wendi,

You were right!  I didn't need a 6 month diet history!  You're really helped to ease my mind along the way to get my approval, and I sincerely thank you.  I was really sweating the 6 month diet history because we only have 2 months left here at this duty station, near a center of excellence and I had my mind set on The Cleveland Clinic.

Thanks again!

Congratulations on getting approval. I'm glad things went so smoothly for you, isn't it funny that if you are overprepared you don't need all the documentation but if you don't document  you should've. Good luck with your surgery.  Wishing you all the best, Neely

Neely,

This is too funny..."Neely" is my maiden name, and the woman who posted before you did shares my first name, Wendy!  But yes, you're right about the documenting thing.  I've been in the position more than once when I should have documented, and since this surgery is very important to me, I made sure to do all that I could on my end.  Thanks for the warm wishes Neely!

I'm so glad to hear everyone had no problems with tricare.  I did all the same things as Wendy and started at the end of October.  As of this morning all my info is in to Tricare and my insurance approval is pending.  I am hopeful but still worried.  Hopefully it won't take weeks for them to decide or I might just go stark raving mad.  But I have to say you have all been a source of information and support to me too!

Wendy I am so excited for you!!!

Congratulations....I have Tricare Prime and was surprised how quickly they approved once my packet was submitted. They approved that very day. Getting the packet & clearances was the hardest part and still wasn't too terribly bad. I am scheduled for surgery on Feb. 10th.

That's awesome Amanda!  I know you're really excited, and probably a little nervous too!  After all of the horror stories that I've heard over the years about Tricare, I think I've learned to form my OWN opinion about them, and I think they're wonderful!  Good luck to you!
