That exclusion pretty much covers any situation surrounding weight loss treatments, be it surgical or non-surgical.     Florida does not have any insurance laws requiring that the treatment of obesity be covered under your medical plan and the employer sponsored health plan has opted to exclude any services.   Unfortunately, short of looking for an employer that includes the coverage in their health benefits, you are looking at self pay.

Aetna isnt excluding the coverage, your group health plan just does not include it in your benefits package.    Talk to your employer about including it in next years benefits package.

Well thats not good, me and many others have talked to them they wont change our insurance. There is no way I can afford this on my own so I am out of luck I guess.

Ask your prospective surgeon's office manager if they work with Aetna? Sometimes it works out!

The more I read that exclusion, the more irritated I get.

It denies people lifesaving care. Period.

My former employer had exclusions denying surgery, and since IL is a state without laws pertaining to obesity treatment, I had to wait until I found an employer/plan that did not exclude it.

I have heard that attornies specializing in WLS appeals may be of service, but this information is not first-hand.

Good luck to you...
