I know, gathering all the required info can seem overwhelming. I did Aetna's 3 month regimen and was approved upon first submission. It you PM me, I'll be glad to give you a breakdown of what I did, as well as copies of the letters I drafted and my PCP signed. Good wishes for everyone - I know what a life changing decision this is!

Bama.Mom,

I just wanted to tell you, I am so thankful that I found you on this site.  i dont know if you remember me but I saw something you posted about Aetna, and I emailed you asking for advice.  You sent me copies of the letters you sent to Aetna, after a little bit of modification, I printed out my own set of letters, took them to my dr. on my last visit, got copies of all his paperwork, and sent it out to Aetna.

I was APPROVED within 10 days!  I am scheduled for my life to forever change on Feb. 2nd!  You have no idea how greatful I am for you!

Thanks!

Marla

Thank you so much for providing the sample letters to me and giving me the breakdown of what Aetna is looking for!  Getting the insurance approval can be so nerve-wracking!!  I'm hoping for my approval soon...will keep you posted!
Thanks again...you are an angel!

Kim - were you trying to do the 3 month multidisciplinary program or the 6 month program?  Just curious.  What all did you submit?

Actually Nan since I posted this I got a call from my surgeons office (Jan. 2) and they asked me how I was doing on my weight loss (had to lose 10 lbs.) and they were waiting on 1 more authorization from the insurance Co. and then we were a go. I had to do the 3 month. I had to submit the PCP letter, clearance from Cardiologist Pulmonary, Oncologist(I have a blod clot condition), proof I was overweight for 2 yrs (jenny Craig, cookie diet records, a letter from my trainer etc.)I did a sleep apnea test, stress test and I had to join a program called "New Beginnings" which gives me support group and nutrition classes (which I love). They weighed me in twice a month and put it in my file. My surgeon was so on top of everything I didn't have to stalk his office which I was prepared to do. I'm very excited its getting close! Did you have to submit this amt of info?

Hi Kim,
Congrats on being one step closer !   I am prepared (thanks to the help of people on this site:-) to submit that amount of info.  I have been follwing the three month multidisciplinary regimen because I am hoping to have surgery in Feb 09.   I was disappointed b/c my surgeon's office has a couple of new staff memebers who sent in my paperwork too soon (right b/f Christmas) thinking I had all the requirments.  However they didn't know all the rules of Aenta.  So I received a denial letter and I am getting ready to send in again.  I have been seeing my PCP since 9/29/08, my dieticien since 10/13/08, a personal trainer who set me up on a weight loss exercise program.  I also have had my psych eval and been documenting with my Dr. some behavior modificaiton.   I plan to submit letters summarizing all of this along with letters from my PCP stating I have completed my 3 mo multi-disciplinary program.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Thanks,
Nan
