6 visits or 6 months?

I keep getting different stories.  I have BCBS of MN.  The policy says "a weight loss attempt of at least 6 months duration".  Now does that mean 6 visits or 6 months (180 days)?  I have gotten both answers from BC and my WLS insurance person.

I saw my PCP in Sept & Oct, switched to a dr. supervised dietician for Nov & Dec.  I have an appt with the RD in Jan and Feb.  Do I need to be seen in March?  I have seen both ways mentioned on this forum as well.

I know it is just four more weeks but I have tried to be patient and another month tacked on is annoying.

I don't have BCBS, but I do have Aetna and they also require the 6 month dr supervised diet.  I am under the undertanding you have to be seen by your PCP each month....are you going to your PCP in Jan & Feb along with seeing the RD??

I know with Aetna, they said 6 months (180 days)  No less than 180 days will be accepted.  I started with my PCP on 9/29 so my 180 days will be up 3/27 and I need to go to my PCP each month during that time frame.  They also have a 3 month multidisciplinary program that I am hoping I can get approved on.  That time will be up 1/12 and I plan on submitting my paperwork then.

Good luck to you!

It is usually 6 months (180 days), because the first visit doesn't count as a month.

I have BCBS and it is definitely 6 months with no missed visit in between.

My insurance company SAID it had to be 180 days, but when my surgeon's office submitted 6 VISITS (less than 180 days from first to last), they accepted it.
