I know there are all sorts of riders and cafeteria plans and whatnots, so just because BCBS covered you, doesnt mean they would cover me at my place of work - but I am looking for a place to start.

My husband has serious misgivings about being self pay and something happening and complications not being covered and that complications will ruin us financially.  He wants to do all we can to see if insurance will cover it.   We have Cigna and they cover RNY and lapband, but not the sleeve - so I am seeing who else did have it covered and what insurance it was - to see if any of those are options for us.

At my work (I am presently covered by my husband's insurance) we have BCBS Carefirst - so I am seening what yall know about that, whether its worth it or not for me to switch next year at open enrollment.

Thank you for all your help!  You are appreciated!

First off call you customer service department at Carefirst and ask them specifically if YOUR plan pays for weight loss surgery.  If they do here is the medicaly policy for Carefirst BCBS Medical Policy Criteria

I suppose since its not actually my insurance at this point, I was being neurotic that they would know I was only switching insurance for the WLS.

Thanks for your help.

It has been my understanding that Carefirst does cover the sleeve.

Carefirst does generally cover the sleeve.

Just thought I would add this here, you need a 5 year history of *morbid* obesity.

Which counts me out.  Boo.

Thanks for the help.
