Hello all.  I have blue cross blue shield of North carolina although i live in ohio.  Will I most likely have to do a six month diet for approval?  I have done weigh****cher before and i am currently a member of a womens gym.  Ive been doing okay but dont actually have a doc supervising me.  What do you think?

Call your insurance company, BCBS has soooo many different policies..

I  BXBS of IL.  My policy specifically name Weigh****chers as an acceptable nutritional therapy.  You might want to have copies of your weight card to submit with request for authorization.

Good Luck!

We are with BCBS of NC and live in SC. I am waiting on Insurance approval, but my understanding is that if it is medically neccesarry it is covered. And they seem to be good in getting back within 2-3 weeks!!!

So, are you saying that if your BMI or whatever puts you at medically needing it, you can go ahead and have it without 6 months supervised medical dieting? I have BCBS AL. We live in GA. I was reading on the website about the diet thing and I thought, "I have been dieting my whole life! Why do I need someone to medically supervise me to then say, yes, I still need it!!"?? My BMI is 50. Any ideas to if I have to do the diet. Like everyone, I guess I am so eager to get it on the way! Also, what problems if any for approval have you guys had with BCBS?

If your policy requires you to do the diet, you have to do the diet regardless of BMI or medical necessity (unless your policy is based out of CA).
