I am jumping for joy wih you--your post made me smile and cheer up because I was denied by TRICCARE PRIME last week. I am a 5 foot 3 inch, 225 pound african american woman (last weight at surgeons office was 225, actually i fluctate between 224 to 227)---my BMI sits right at 39.9 or low 40's.   The TRICARE denial letter I received cited the criteria for being 100 pounds overweight was not met.   My obesity struggle started during my 12th year of active duty in the military after the birth of my second child--so I started at 115 pounds and feel good in the one hundred teens (110-119).  To make sure I met the weight requirements (we were officially weighed every 3 months)--I stayed on a 1000 to 1200 calorie diet (followed ADA, weigh****chers, jenny craig, air force diet etc...)---and I never went over the 149 military weight limit in my 25 years of active duty--but I felt like crap all the time and havea bunch of comorbids (asthma since childhood, fatty liver, joint/muscle pain-fibromyalgia and connective tissue disorder).

**All this info to introduce myself to you (I am chell) and ask for your recommendations on how to obtain TRICARE Prime approval--I just don't get it as far as the denial and denials of other people I am reading about on this forum--and part of the reason I don;t get it is -that when I was on active duty I was one of the nurses who used to review authorizations and provide approvals (for up to 150 k--that was my limit for the rank and position I held).  I am floored now being on the other side of the road b/c I approved every reasonable request that came across my desk (not bragging I just believe that people *****quest a medical procedure and have a medical neccessity should not be given a bunch of burecratic nonsense (just venting :)

Any tips or help you can provide is greatly appreciated and I hope this email to you is the start of a beautiful email friendship (no worries, I am not a stalker smile:--and also know that people are busy with functional tasks so not picky about when or if you respond)

thankyou and Godspeed,

chell
