Employer's Policy?

Ok, so has anyone had your insurance company say "yea, you're good to go as far as we're concerned, but your employer says you haven't met all the requirements"? UHC says I'm good with my BMI, where i'm having the surgery, all my testing, etc. But according to UHC, my employer requires a 6 month supervised diet on top of that. (and of course no one told me that until AFTER i submitted all my paperwork).

The one question people keep asking me is can they do that? So I'm asking you guys and gals....

Can they do that?

Sorry to say , Yes they can.

Ex. Just because a person has insurance with Blue Cross Blue Shield doesn't neccessarily mean that the requirements for WLS are the BCBS requirements. It is up to your individual company to set up their policy requirements with BCBS. The company may use BCBS's recommendation on requirements or change them.

The thing you need to know is that the Company policy take precedence over the std. insurance companies requirements. In some cases they are less severe, and in some cases more.

In my case it was less severe with in some areas and more in others.

Best of luck.

Is  your insurance self funded? If it is contact the HR dept and see if you can plead your case to them. Sometimes the HR dept will be willing to work with you. Do not believe anything insurance companies say, call up your HR dept ASAP and get your medical policy from them. Here is a website that kinda explain self funded insurance vs. fully funded insurance:
