I just started looking into having surgery.  I had found in a health booklet that my company gives us that insurance will pay 80%.  I just called the insurance company today to ask questions.  The lady I spoke with didn't know of anyone who was successful in completing the process and making it to surgery.  That was quite disappointing.  She said go ahead and try for it, but there was no guarantee as to what the medical board would decide about my case.  I'm sure it's just what this lady has dealt with, but I'm hoping to hear from other people who's dealt with this insurance company.  I'm going to try to gather all the information I can and keep my fingers crossed that things work out!

Insurance is a business. They are out to make money. Their reps do not make any step of the WLS process easy. Do not take the word of anyone from the insurance company. Do you know the specific criteria for WLS with your insurance? Do you have an HMO, sounds like you have a PPO if they say they will cover 80 %. What you need to do is find a preferred provider for your insurance and schedule an appointment asap. If you have a PPO  you can self refer and the surgeon's office will handle all the insurance stuff for you. If your insurance requires a supervised diet you should be able to do it through the bariatric surgeon's office.  Which insurance do you have? Which surgery do you want. People can't help if they don't know these things. Best of luck
