What are our chances? - VSG & Anthem BCBC of Ca

DH is considering, either RNY or VSG. We have Anthem BCBS through my work. They cover RNY but consider VSG experimental. Hubby is leaning towards VSG, which means we would be looking at denial-appeal process. His BMI is almost 60 and has plantar fascitis. Other than that, he is health as a horse, but only because he is 35 and lucky. We know he won't be healthy forever at his weight.

What are our chances that we can get an approval (even after an appeal process) for a VSG from Anthem  BCBS?

 Anthem BCBS of CA  where California has a appeal mandate set forth called the CA Dept of Managed Health Care.   Even if you do not live in CA but have Anthem BC of CA you have that write to request an appeal.
