Hello!
My clinic submitted my paperwork on 10/10.  I called UHC to be sure they received it and then did on 10/10.  As of 10/17 they told me my case is still pending review.  Does anyone know how long it usually takes to be reviewed for an approval or denial?  Just trying to figure out what to expect.
Thanks for your help!

I was with UHC Choice Plus and it only took 4 days, but my best friend was with them also, through a diffrent work place, and it took 2 1/2 months.

I just kept calling and calling and mine was aproved in 12 days. They kept telling me to call back that it would prolly be done by the end of the day. And then when I went on vacation my surgeons office called me and let me know!

Thanks for your replies!  I called again today and they told me that my file was sent to the RN for review but has not been reviewed yet so that could be good news.   I will just keep stalking them :-)

I sent my appeal to UHC on 10/13, I faxed it...they show they got it on 10/15.  I have called 2x since then and all they will tell me that is under review and I should hear in 10-15 business days.
My surgeon had originally sent my paperwork on 9/5/08 and on 9/12 they sent a denial letter out.  I can only hope the appeal gets answered as quickly and goes the way I want it to....
Good Luck!

Did they tell you why you were denied originally?  It sounds good that the appeal is taking a little longer...that may be a good thing :-)

They said because I hadn't documented a 5yr history of a BMI over 40.  When I had called about the requirements for WLS, they forgot to tell me that part of it....
I got allthe paperwork in and am just playing the waiting game now.  I want to call everyday though...

It took UHC only 24 hours to decide on my approval once they received the faxed package from my Dr. office.

I have a Registered Nurse care coordinator from UHC who has been the contact person all along.  She even called me personally to let me know of the approval.

It might vary from plan to plan.
