I am 21 yrs old and live in eastern ky. My dad works for the state so he has Humana which I will not longer be on as of Jan. 1st of 2009 because of my age.  I have been trying to meet the requirements so that I can have the lap-band surgery.  I will not be finished with my 6 months before I lose my insurance.  I work at a local doctors office (Internal Medicia though) and only make about $900 a month, so self pay is not an option and my work wont offer me insurance until August 2009.  What should I do? Would I be able to get Medicare/Medicade? Would they pay for lap-bad or ds surgery? Please let me know what you think I should do!

Can you get a part-time job at Starbucks? Their insurance covers WLS, including the DS, and they offer insurance even to part-time employees.

when you come off your fathers insurance they should be able to offer you a conversion policy but I will tell you the premiums will be high but the surgery cost for self pay may out weigh the premiums you would have to pay.  Check with your fathers human resources department to see if they will offer a conversion or cobra policy for you
