Anyone care to jump in and give me an idea of how long it took United Health Care (UHC) to give you a decision? I called and they received my paperwork on tuesday and the nurse at the Dr Office is telling me not to be surprised if she calls me next week!!! I've had other people tell me they've been approved within 24 hrs even!!

I am with M.D.-IPA but they are a part of UHC and I am under a federal plan. Not bursting your bubble but it depends on what type of surgery you are getting. I submitted for VSG and was denied and I am in the process of appealing. On the other hand they told my surgeons office that they would approve the lap band or RNY which I don't want either one of those. So UHC has a track record of turning people down the first time around in hopes that you will go away. just make sure all of your prerequisites are done.

I am actually a revision from Band to RNY which I had 2 Dr.s tell me that insurance would not approve it so they would not waste my time subming it. I kept looking and found a great Dr.

My paperwork was submitted on August 25th and I received a letter in the mail on Sept 3rd that I was approved by UHC.

Scheduled for Surgery on October 15th. I can't wait.

good luck!

I used to work for UHG-UHC. It all depends on how many apps they get how busy they are and of course what hoops you have to jump through (set down by the company you work for not the ins co)

Good Luck!

I am disabled and have a Medicare advantage plan through United Health Care and I am being screwed over so badly I don't know what to do. Not only will they not pay for the surgery I am being told they will not pay for all t he testing I had done.  This ia amounting to thousand of dollars I don't have because I am disabled.  Please get everything in  writing before you go any further and make sure they will pay fo r everything.  I hope you have more luck an d success than I did.
