Second weight loss surgery

Has anyone here been successful with getting their insurance to pay for a second weigh loss surgery.  I had my lapband removed on Tuesday due to 2 slips in 2 years.  My doctor was not able to replace or repair it at that time, because it was a major slip and stomach needs time to heal.  My BMI is way too low now to meet the original requirements.  One of the options I am considering is getting a revision to VSG, because I'm not sure I want another band, due to my past history.   Surgeon told me I was more likely to have slips in the future, since I had a history.  I discussed the VSG with him and he said that would be a good choice for me.  He told me to go ahead and get the ball rolling with the insurance company but they would probably deny and I would have to appeal and take to arbitration.  I called my companyy United Healthcare and they just said I would have to start the whole process over and have my doctor submit documentation of why I needed the surgery.  The reason I need the surgery is to keep from gaining back the 100 pounds I lost with the band.  I plan on having my surgeon submit to insurance for VSG.  Just wanted to know if anyone has had a similar situation and been successful in getting insurance to pay.  Any help would be appreciated.

Go to the VSG board. There is several people that have revised to the sleeve from the band.   There is lots on there with revisions.  Ask and they will respond and help. I do not know about INS but you can also ask that question. I do know that the sleeve is getting more popular with INS.

I'm not positive, but if you're a healthy weight I don't think that they would approve you for weight loss surgery. You don't need it. If, however, you become obese, they will cover it if you jump through the hoops again. Sorry, but your best bet is going to be diet and exercise to maintain not another surgery.

I have dealt with this issue in the past for many patients. To my knowledge they have never covered a procedure just so the weight was not gained back. They cover all the time for those who are still obese and have complications like yours. If your are not with a BMI above 35, you do not have much of a case here, sorry!
