I'm posting this for a friend of mine.  He is self employeed in Indiana and currently has Anthem BC/BS  and has been told by 2 surgeons that it is excluded in his plan how would he go about finding a plan to switch to or get a policy rider or something to cover?

Thanks for any ideas

Generally speaking, he is going to need a group plan.  No individual plans are going to offer coverage for WLS.

I just found a coalition group plan in Texas for my family....WE are both self employed.  What they do is get a few companies together and form a group plan.  Yes it is group insurance so you pay more but more things are covered.  I am currently waiting and praying to find out if they cover WLS at least they cover maternity which is at least a step in the right direction......Because a lot of the plans that I had found excluded maternity.   Good luck.....Julie

I forgot about those.  Here in GA, small self-employed companies can get insurance thru the Chamber of Commerce in a similar fashion to what you are describing.  I wish you luck.
