You have got to be kidding me. I requested my medical records from my gynecologist so I could show my 5 years of weight history (required by my insurance). I'm only in my 20s, so I can't say I was having regular annual physicals with a regular doc, but I was seeing my gyn every year for pill checkups, and they always weighed me.
Anyway, so I got a response from my old gyn--their office BURNED DOWN. She has NO medical records of mine left. The only things she has are a few blood test results that were sent to her electronically--NOTHING with my weight on it.
Does this mean I have to wait another whole year (I have 4 years of weight history--or, I will when my 6 months diet is done...2005-2009)? I do have records even older, like from 2000, that show a morbidly obese weight. Would that help? Along with the letter from my gyn explaining the fire?
I know this is pretty unusual, so I'm not sure anyone has specific exprience with it--how many medical offices burn down before you get a chance to get your records? I'm just the lucky one

I think that going back further than 5 years, plus a note about the fire, is sufficient. If not, you would most definitely win on appeal.

I sure hope so. I want this diabetes resolved sooner rather than later!

I would sure hope they would be understanding of that, but ya never know with some of these insurance companies. Do you think you might have weighed in somewhere else that year.... ie: school physical, workout place, Curves, Weigh****chers...anywhere you could find record of someone else weighing you? Otherwise, I would go for it, try it...it can't hurt to try! Good luck!!

Believe me, I have thought about that! The only thing I could think of is that I joined a gym that year, and they weighed me, but that gym closed a few years ago (only had 1 location). I was not in school in 2004.

That won't help--that was definitely more than 5 years ago! I already have doc's records for 2000 and prior, just missing that 5th consecutive year (2004).

Well, as it turns out, I may not have as big an issue as I thought. I just picked up my medical records from my provider that I thought went back to 2005, but there was a weight recorded at an appointment in DECEMBER 2004! Hopefully, that will suffice...
