Jan 1st Insurance change
Just wondering. My insurance is with a large corporation that changes insurance carriers every few years. What happens if you are in the middle of the approval process for WLS..or even alreadly approved but waiting for your surgery date..and your carrier changes on 01/01?
Have any of you had this happen?
I'm trying not to fret it, but my husband brought it up last night. Our company has been hot and heavy of reducing costs this year. Nothing would surprise me. What if they write in an exclusion? Or pick and new carrier and exclude WLS.
I imagine I would SOL.
If you've had this happen to you, how was it handled?
Thanks

I had this happen to me. I got approved before we switched, but surgery could not be performed until after, what I was told is that you have to file a continuity of care with the new insurance company and they will have to pay for it. I had to send in the approval letter with the continuity of care paperwork.
Well Yippee Skippy.....I found out today that it is going to change to Aetna Jan '09. I can't believe this! I must have jinxed myself.
Now I've got to find out what I can about Aetna. Of course, I have no idea what type of plan I will have, or even if it will exclude WLS. The diet requirements may change as well as the surgeon choices.
I think I'm going to be going to the psych ward instead of the bariatric ward.
Please swing me some chickens if you got 'em
