Your experience with BCBS of Texas
Looking for tips and tricks with BCBS of Tx if any of you have dealt with them. I was denied 2 years ago due to lack of 6mth medically supervised diet. But am now in one again (started last week) and would like to get this done and submitted for surgery this year (before an exclusion can be made!)
Thanks!<><
I was just approved by BCBS TX TRS which is for teachers.Yours may be a little different. My Dr. sent in everything and I was approved on the first submission. It took 2 weeks. My BMI is 49.
TRS is mostly concerned with the Dr. supervised diet.
On the first visit: blood work, diet type, exercise type, comorbids, diet diary, meds, height, weight all discussed. MAKE SURE THEY DOCUMENT ALL THIS IN YOUR FILE! Some DR.'s will discuss, but not write it down.
I made sure every visit: discuss and document.
*diet consult only
*weight & vitals taken
*exercise discussed
*diet discussed/diary
* Behavior changes attempted and what is helping. For instance, I don't like protein very much, so I made a list of proteins I do like and keep it in my purse. I also stopped eating lunch out and dropped 20 lbs. Then I struggled the whole 6 months with positive changes for breakfast.
One problem I had was going back every 30 days. Be real careful b/c if you skip a month, they can make you start over. I had 3 visits that were 6 weeks instead of 4, but they approved me anyway.
I think that's everything. I hope it helps. LMK if you have any questions.
Sara
