BCBS of GA

I'm getting ready to start trying for an approval for revision. I was looking over my insurance policy, and it says a pre-requisite is that you must have participated in non-surgical methods of weight reduction. It does not give any time period that I can see. Does anyone have experience with this? The first doctor's office I contacted told me that I needed to start the 6 mo medicially supervised diet.

Thanks,
Jill

I don't have your insurance but I have been dealing with this issue through my insurance. They faxed some test requirements to the surgeon that said 6 month doctor followed diet. Then they sent me a letter saying 12 months. When I called the surgeons office to tell them about the letter they said to throw that letter away and we were just going to go off what the fax said. So I'm almost through with all my tests and then I'll have about 8 months followed, then they're going to submit it for approval. Hope this helps some.......

I have BCBS of GA.  I am applying for my first WLS, not a revision.  In my plan I do have a 6 month medically supervised diet requirement.

Yes, I do.  but I have just found out that we will be changing to Aetna for 2009.  Things are gonna get crazy if I haven't received my approval by then from BCBS.  Which I don't suspect I will.
