cardiac/pulmonary releases

Most of all insurances want you to get a cardiac and pulmonary release saying your OK to have surgery. OK, how long are these releases good for (ie.,1month, 6months, 1year, etc.). All I have left to do are these releases and then all my tests/paperwork can be submitted for approval. I went to see my PCP this am and she said we'd wait until we get closer to the surgery date, but the surgeon won't set a date without prior approval from WellCare of Ga. So I don't know what to do. Does anybody have any suggestions, I sure would appreciate it......

i was told by every doc office that i called that the test results were good for a 6 mo and sometimes a year. my pcp has told me to go head and start seeing the other docs and i havent even been to the siminar yet, i fugure that i might as well cause its not like im payin for it and if something happens that prevents me ( GOD forbid!!!) from getting my surgery at least i got a full checkup and if every thing goes well at least im ahead of the game

If you don't mind me asking what type of insurance do you have?

I was told that they were good for 6 months. There may be pre-admin testing that surgeons will do right before surgery depending on each person it could mean another chest x-ray, ekg, and some blood work.

I got around this by going back to my surgeon's office and told them you want me to do all of this but my primary wants me to wait until I am closer to surgery. That's when  they gave me all of my clearance papers and necessary prescriptions for upper gi/chest x-ray/ultrasound of gallbladder/bloodwork from the surgeon. I am not hiding anything from my primary she's copied on everything but I am not going to let them hold me back from getting this surgery because they did not understand what the surgeon was doing. In my opinion most primary doctors are not educated on the pre-approval process the surgeons go through and it's sad that patients have educate them.

After I got all of the paperwork I informed each doctor cardiac/pulmonary/and even the primary that I needed their clearance and without that my surgeon would not submit my file to the insurance for approval of the surgery and would not give me a date for surgery. After it was explained to my primary she was fine with it and completed the forms. The cardiologist took care of the clearance too. The only hold out is my pulmonologist's office since they are sending me in for another sleep study because too much time had past since my 2006 test which showed negative for sleep apnea. It's a long story but she will not clear me until I do the study so this Saturday guess where I am going.

I hope this helps you
