Anthem BC/BS of Ohio
My husband is starting a job with a co. that offers Anthem BC/BS and they are based in Ohio. In trying to decide whether to switch to their insurance I called and asked if Bariatric surgery was covered if it was medically necessary. She said the company excluded the benefit. Has anyone ever been able to get around this? I work for county government and we are self insured with no coverage, I was hoping that with changing to Anthem I would have a chance.
Please let me know.

when I had anthem (for 9 years ended in june 07) they didn't cover it. at all. not even if you did it yourself would they cover any hospital or doctors for complications.
I've heard it varies by employer though.

Anthem offeres WLS coverage to employers as a rider to the plan they purchase. They have to have more than 100 employees, and you have to get your employer to upgrade their plan at the next negotiation/open season time. See my post in your other thread.
My employer has Anthem, and they are looking into increasing the coverage they offer due to my hard work getting them the info.
