Cigna says nut visits are not acceptable
After doing 3 months of visits with a nut and 3 more with my PCP cigna is now telling me that the 3 months of visits with the nut do not count as physician assisted visits? Now I have to continue doing 3 more with my PCP. I told cigna that in my opinion I benefited much more from the nut visits then from showing up for weight and vitals at my PCP's. Here we go again. At least I do have my seminar scheduled for the 31st and my surgeon's consult on the 7th of August. I just wanted to put this out there for anyone who has Cigna and is in the state of NY.
What kills me is that if you go to their website and look up the requirements for Bariatric Surgery, it states right in their information that studies have shown that diet and excercise alone does not work in the long term and yet they keep sending us to waste our money and their just to show up and get weighed. After 38 years of being fat I think I deserve a little more credit.
My insurance co has been paying for me to see my doc for 10 years. But when she tryed to call them to discuss this surgery they told her they could not talk to her because she was not a doctor but a nurse practisioner! She tryed to explain to them how long she had been seeing me and it would take a while for another doc to get up to date on my files and they wouldn't hear of it. They still won't talk to her. Hell when I called them to try to find out wth was going on they wouldn't even talk to me about me!! Said that my doc would have to call them to ask questions about me for me to find out anything. But then they won't talk to her either! So now when she submits paperwork to them she has the doc she works under to co-sign with her. That just takes the cake don't it? Pay for me to see her for all these years and then when she trys to speak to them they down play her lisense. I hate insurance co, I bet the person on the other end of the phone is a size 2 and has never had to worry about what she puts in her mouth! Sry I'm no help to you but had to throw in my opinion on insurance co.....
Well I a little scared right now too becuase when I just went in for my monthly weigh in I got the PA instead of my Doc, she was out sick. I told them that the doc sure as hell better be the one who signs off on it because I can just see Cigna denying that visit because it wasn't with my PCP. The things we go through. We all need to get a single guideline put together so that they can't throw us any curve balls, especially when we think we about to have the surgery.
I went this am to see my PCP and she told me she doesn't understand why the insurance co is acting the way they are about me. That she has another obese patient that weights over 400# and has no co-morbs at the moment (she's younger than me) and they approved her on the first try and didn't ask her to get any tests done (cardiac/pulmonary clearance, DOA, H-pylori, 6 or 12 mo followed diet, etc). And she has the same insurance I do! I really don't understand why these insurance co are the way they are about WLS.......
