I am wanting a revision from vbg to ds.  Will bcbs fed standard pay for this?  is the VA self funded?   Can the VA override the denial?

Hi I'mArustyRose...

I am new to this web site and all the "slang"  Not sure what a revision from vbg to ds is...But I have bcbs federal basic plan and they pay 100% of wls (excluding a couple hundred dollars for overnight visit)....I'm not sure what bcbs fed standard plan covers, but you may want to check into the bcbs fed basic plan....I dont think the VA is self-funded.  I'm not with the DOD (VA) myself, I'm with the BOP.  Good luck!

I am wanting a revision from a vetical banded gastroplasty to and duodenal switch with Dr Husted.   I think that every state has a bcbs reviewer that decides what they are going to do.  I think California is particularly tight about approving anything.
Thanks DeEtte for giving me your take on things.

BCBS Federal approved my lap band to DS.  However, my lap-band was self-pay, so the DS is the first surgery they are paying.

No, the VA is not self-insured or self-funded for employee health care.  The BCBS FEP is a true insurance like all federal plans.
