healthlink ins/6 mo diet?

I have called healthlink 3 times they keep telling me that what I require is a letter of medical necessity from dr.    Surgeons office seems to think I need 6 months diet history.  I have spoken with other people at work with same ins.  They didn't have to do diet before.  How do I find out for sure if this is what I need when ins. keeps telling me they don't.  Surgeons staff didn't seem to want to send letter until today I insisted that is what is needed.  Was I wrong?  Should I go by what ins. co. is telling me or what the surgeons offices is telling me?  I have healthlink with the state of illinois.  The surgeon is in a area where a lot of us is based(Springfield, IL)  so I would think I'm not the first patient with this insurance.

Thanks

Some surgeons have requirements of their own beyond those of the insurance company. For insurance, I would do what your inurance says they require. I would maybe ask to make sure the surgeon's office is telling you actual insurance requirements, not just their preferred requirements.

Thanks for the response.  The problem is the ins. co. is telling me one thing and the surgeons office is saying that their experience is another.  I'm hopinig they have health link confused with health alliance.  Both are different health plans offered to state employees.
