Switching Insurance

Howdy All! I'm a newbie and hoping to have WLS surgery within the next 4 months. Last week I went to a informational session at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. There I made an appointment with one of the surgeons for July 2.  Currently I have Aetna (which SUCKS!) and the contract holder is District Council 33 (city works union); yet I work for the City of Philly which uses Independence Blue Cross/Blue Shield (Personal Choice) if you aren't apart of the union. Of course, since the last time I checked (which was a 2 years ago) the Union has a rider policy that excludes WLS. Blue Cross/Blue Shield does cover WLS. That info comes from a co-worker who is in the process of having surgery. So my question is should I switch insurances before or after I meet my surgeon?  I've had past headaches dealing with Aetna that I've given up on contacting them for anything. Please help! I'm scared and frustrated that I won't get the surgery at all Thanks to all for reading and replying to this

You need to check with Aenta and see if your surgery is covered under your current plan. Don't be afraid to work with them, they may be tough, but they will cover the surgery if your plan covers it.

thank you. I think that might be the best solution instead of switching
