Hello, I am self employed. I do not have a lot of money so I can not afford to pay for the surgery myself. It would probably take about a year for me to raise it up. I really need to get it done. Is there an insurance company that I could apply to that would cover the surgery? Any suggestions? Thanks! Lorinda

I'm afraid you might have a near impossible battle. Your only chance would be to get on a group insurance with a company that combines lots of small businesses, and I don't know much about that. Individual health plans all exclude WLS unless you are the lucky few that live where it is required to be offered by law.
Duodenal Switch hybrid due to complications.

VSG on 03/10/09 with
I am currently going through this myself. Husband and I are both self employed have looked into insurance.  NO ONE will cover not even texas risk pool they have an exclusion from the get go.  I have decided I will self pay. However I have to pray that I don't have any complications for one year because the group insurance policy we are going with can refuse to cover,  However if the doctors will work with me if I tell them they need to code it differently. From what I understand they will Please feel free to contact me I have been researching this recently.  Also I have decided on a doctor in detroit, Mi that charges 11,500 for VSG.  julie
