How do I go about fighting an Exclusion

I haven't even started any process yet for the simple fact my company has an exclusion.  the insurance company covers surgery but the company doesn't.   When i called the insurance company they were suprised it wasn't covered.  How do i fight it.  I don't want to do this damn appeal process as i've heard people from my job have appealed 5 times and nothing has changed.  what can i do??

thanks Paul, i'm in a union and they currently are negotiating right now for the 3 years of coverage. and it doesn't look like they are getting any better but our medical is going to get a bit worse. we don't pay much per premium a month something like $15 for medical a month so.  I'd hate to quit a job and get another one just for the insurance.  I love the job i have now.
