Help employer dropped coverage
In jan I called my insurance and asked if my plan covered gastric bypass and they said yes 100%. I went for my first appointment on feb 22nd. I have gone through all of my test. My dr called to set up my sergon appointment and said well call your insurance again to make sure there arnt any xtra hoops to jump through. When i called blue cross blue shield of NJ they told me that my company dropped that coverage in the begining of 2008 and it is no longer covered. I dont know what to do. From what im reading online a company has to notify you when they drop any kind of coverage. I called my benifits dept and she seemed very annoyed and said that the insurance company should have never told me anything either way and that my dr was suppose to submit something in the very beging to see if it was covered. I asked her if there was any exception since they did cover it and because i have already completed everything to this point and she said no if we dont cover it we dont cover it but that she would look into it and get back to me. Also im not sure but is it different if the dr says its medically necessary? Should I tell the benifits lady that i am going to get a lawyer? any advice would be great.
When the new year and new contract started, it was made available to you to view and read. That is all the notification they have to give you. No matter what the lady said on the phone, the Certificate of Coverage has the final say. Sounds like your employer excluded it to save money...
