Hello All.....     I am 27 and am hoping to have weight loss surgery.  I have a BMI of 65.   I currently don't have insurance and my last insurance had an exclusion.  I have bad credit, don't own a house, etc.  Any creative ideas on how to get this done?  I've tried getting a personal insurance policy but have been turned down due to my weight.  Has anyone been successful with finding an insurance that you can purchase an individual plan????  Any and all suggestions welcom!!!! Katie

Katie,  I'm in the same boat as you, although I may not be able to be helpful I can let you know what I've been through and come accross. I also have a high BMI as you my surgery is not costmetic, like most folks it's medically nessisary!! I have quite a few medical problems including border line diabetic and venis statis<----those are the two that scares me the most. I work for a small non state ran bussiness handling the mentally disabled. My company chose to exclude wls, since our plan would be less expensive, frankly our insurance sucks, it don't cover anything!! I've applied for private insurances and none will take me because "I'm too fat", "too high risk" which in my opinion is a form of discrimination all throughtout the board!! So many people become healthy, non diabetics, and live such a wonderful life and say that they would do the surgery over again!! I feel the whole hospital is a rip off, they can discount costs if you are self pay, yet if insurance pays they see this red flashing light to charge whatever the hell they wanna charge, so it's the insurance company who are discriminated too!! Well I guess I could just go on and rant and rave so much til I am blue in the face and annoy everyone, but it won't get neither of us anywhere!!  So many people on the bored are helpful and encouraging some suggest outta country, some suggest starbucks, which the nearest one is like 35 miles away, and some suggest self pay. What scares me about self pay is complications and nothing to fall back on, not to mention most insurance companies will refuse you even though you hare skinny, but you had some type of gastric bypass surgery, it's just so annoying, agitating and plain out sucks!!! I pay about 150 a month and have a 2000 deductible with our group plan and as blunty as I can state it, it don't cover sh*t!!  I have a Dr's Appointment on the 18th I considering letting him write the letter like he wanted to two months ago to file for disability, I though by doing it I would feel quilty, but hey if it'll work and make me healthy why not give a shot., my mother has discussed with me that she wants me to try this approach and then go on to plan B and C. B is ICHIA which is an indiana insurance company they are soooo expensive, but do cover the sugery I figured it'll cost almost 20-25 grand going through the whole waiting period and paying my monthly premiums plus deductible and 20% of wls. And for some reason if that don't work I guess I will self pay!! In the end it will be worth it, I'm 20 years old and have never known what it was like to do most ativities skinny people take for granted all of my life!! I won't give up!! If surgery is what you want go for it, be strong and fight as much as you can I've been at this since Jan when my doc suggested wls!!! So I guess the only thing I can ask, does texas have something like ICHIA where they will cover anyone with out coverage you just have to pay alot?!?!?  I can't offer much suggestions, but I can be here to support you please let me know how things go!!! YOU CAN DO IT IF YOU WANT IT!!!! *edited because I'm such a horrible speller and typist sorry
