BCBS - IA - 3 year medically supervised
Here's one of the requirements:
The patient must have a documented medical history of failure to sustain weight loss with medically supervised dietary and conservative treatment for at least three years including within two years preceding surgery. Medically supervised treatment consists of physician documentation of the assessment of the patient, what health interventions are prescribed and their on-going assessment of patient's progress toward a goal of weight loss or control of an obesity-related comorbidity.
I hear a lot about BCBS requiring 6 months of supervised diet. I suspect this is new. I have some history through registered dieticians in a clinical setting and past prescription. Has anyone else gotten approval under these cir****tances -and would supervised programs such as Weigh****chers, etc. count towards the progress? It's not that I wouldn't have gone to my physician for support had she indicated she had any assistance to offer... So - if I have to fill in the gaps - what type of doctor would you recommend who could provide medically supervised dietary support. (It used to be the insurance companies limited how much they would pay for medically supervised dietary support such as a working with a registered dietician or a physician - isn't it ironic? )
