Hi, here is my question. I had lap band surgery 3/5/07 which was very successful at first. In the last 9 months I have not been able to tolerate fills and my surgeon and I decided that I would seek a revision to RNY. I have a BMI well over 40 and no co-morbities. My insurance has just denied my revision request stating that they want a 6 month supervised diet which was not required for the original surgery. They approved the original surgery within 2-3 weeks with no 5 year history which they requested this time also. It was provided to them. I want to know what I should do next. My doctor did write a very detailed letter of medical necessity to the insurance stating that the lap band was not working properly in me. Thanks in advance. Amanda eta: I have UHC EPO through my employer - same insurance that approved the first surgery.

Hi, I am just starting to look into getting lap band surgery.  I am 28 yrs old.  I am 5 foot 6 and weight close to 230 lbs.  I dont really have alot of health problems.  My husband works in wyoming and we will soon be on meritain health insurance out of minneoplis.  I am just curious to see if they cover lap band surgery.  I have tried so many different ways to lose weight in the past over ten years and my sister had gastric bypass surgery and was really happy with it.  I am too scared of that type of surgery and thats why I thought of lap band.  Seems alot safer.  Like I said I am new to this so just trying to get some info!
