I've never posted on this board before but my question is, when I called my insurance company to ask if they cover fills, they said yes and that I would be responsible for the 20% coinsurance.  Is that in addition to my copay or what?? Thanks for any help you can give.

Coinsurance is the same as co-payment.  That means that your insurance will cover the 80 percent while you're responsible for the remaining 20 percent. Hope this helps!

The other post is incorrect.  Copay and Coinsurance is not the same.  If they are telling you it's 20% then that is the coinsurance you will have to pay.  The copay will only apply if they bill a office visit, chances are they may bill it as office visit surgery which would be normally a deductible and coinsurance.  You need to ask the doctor what CPT code they bill with, if it's office surgery then ask insurance company what they cover, if they bill it under just office visit (doubtful) then just 20.00 copay applies.  If your plan is self insured then the employer chooses what they want to cover and what amount, so get CPT code call insurance and see how they will cover that.
