Changing Insurance

I am about 18 months post op.  I recently changed employers and so my insurance has changed.  I will need follow-up coverage, but unfortunately with a new surgeon.  What kind of steps do you recommend that I take here?  Do I need "pre-approval" or am I just good to make an appt when the time comes?  Thanks!
