Insurance Exclusion

Hello everyone and thanks for reading my message. I'm new to this website and was referred to it from a friend. Like most of you I have been battleing with my weight for such a long time and I've been trying to get the lap band surgery for quite some time now. I have jumped through most of the hoops my PCP recommended only to find out that my insurance (BC/BS) wouldnt cover any of it and in fact it was considered an exclusion on my plan. This rejection has really made me loose hope in my journey to a new leaf on life. Is there anyone out there that can perhaps point me in the right direction or tell me what my options are or what the next step is? I'm lost but my dream still lives on. ANY help with this is appreciated.

Thank and God Bless,

Joe

Joe, I feel your pain. I fought my exclusion with BCBS of TX and got no where. I finally gave up and self payed in Mexico with Dr. Rumbaut. I wish I stopped fighting sooner and had surgery sooner, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I help people get approved all the time, I work for a bariatric surgeon, 90% of my job is insurance, 10% is office nurse.  People freak out when they find out they have an exclusion, and say they could never finance it, then get in their $30,000 vehicle and drive home. I'm not saying this is you...I do not know you........I'm just writing my experiences. You have 2 options......hire Gary and pray..........finance surgery. Good luck and God bless!

Joe, I'm new here, and in the same boat as you.  I have BC/BS of Florida, and anything related to WLS is an exclusion under my policy... HOWEVER, the wording on the policy is not inclusive... it states that it is an exclusion 'if the policy holder has had a previous surgery of the same type" which I havent.  I'm sending in my application at the end of this week to the WLS clinic @ UNC Chapel Hill in NC, and I know I will have their insurance person fighting for me.  I have all my paperwork in order, and I know I will be a good candidate.  DONT GIVE UP YET!  Hang in there with me, and READ that policy book... there are always loop-holes! Thanks, Kel
