Newbie Denied By Tricare

My denial letter from tricare states : Our determination is based on the following: This service is a non covered benefit per TRICARE policy manual 6010.54M, August 1,2002,Chapter4 Section 13.2 surgery for morbid obesity. Are they saying that the surgery is not allowed ?

It appears that they are saying that any surgery for weight loss is excluded in your health insurance policy. Do you have a copy of the covered benefits? If so, I'd look up 6010.54 and see what it says. Many health insurance policies have exclusions for weight loss surgery. Check with your employer or whoever you have your insurance through to be sure. Best wishes.   Shelly

how weird...I got approved right away through tricare.  what were you asking for...I just had my surgery and they only covered open rny, a month or so before my surgery I heard they started allowing the lap-band. -Michelle

Tricare Prime has just recently approved Lap-Band, by recently i mean within the last month or so..try again perhaps you will have better results
