UHC's last week question
I posted last week about being submitted to UHC and was wondering what the wait would be. it was faxed on Friday, I called today and it had already been approved, not sure when I would have found out if I hadn't called. So please I encourage you to followup on your claims and call.... wish you all the best of luck....
OMG. I read your post about 20 minutes ago. My doctor's office had faxed my information over to Aetna on Wednesday, March 19. I was told to give it 5 days and then call the insurance company and make sure they received it. Well....I've never been known for patience....so I called them yesterday morning. It took a while for the representative to find the fax, but she did find it. She told me she was going to go head and pull it off the system, get a reference claim number for me and send it to nurse review. This was yesterday at about 11:30 a.m. She told me it could take about a week. I read your post and thought....hummmmm......I think I will call. When I called the lady told me I had an approval. It was actually approved yesterday when they got it. OH MY GOSH what a relief. Thank you thank you thank you for this post you wrote.

Thanks so much for the post! I thought about what you wrote and so I then called to check on my claim....they hadn't even received it! So, I called my physician's office and had them fax it (they mailed it the first time...2 weeks ago!) and they also called them. She said they would call and let them know. Well, after reading your post, I will be calling them tomorrow!!! However, they did ask my dr's office for a surgery date, so does that sound like an approval to you? I am sure praying it is!!! If so, my date is April 9!!!! I'm trying not to freak out! I've been trying for this surgery for SIX YEARS!!! Finally after 4 insurance companies, maybe this one is finally going to approve me!
I have UHC and went for my consultation on 4/10/08. Why did they deny you? I'm really nervous now. My doctor talked like UHC is one of the easier insurance companies to get approved through. Did your doctor talk like it's pretty common to get a decline the first time and it's no big deal, or what?
Please let me know as much information as you can. Have you met a lady on this website yet that calls herself the "Insurance Guru?" She will help you with your appeal for free and says her success rate is pretty high. If you know who I'm talking about, PM her. If not, let me know and I'll get her information for you.
Thanks,
Melissa
I did PM one lady who was answering like everyones questions. The thing that's tricky with UHC is that they have lots of different plans, some cover and some don't. My doctor/doc's office doesn't know what they're talking about so I stopped asking them. I didn't choose him because of his superior insurance savy though so I suppose it's okay.
anyway, with you- the clincher is to read your policy. get it. get a physical copy of it, and look at it yourself. And/or have someone who knows it look with you. You have to read and see if Weigh Loss programs, including surgery, are part of their "coverage exclusions". The language is very tricky, but basically, if you can figure out if there are any cir****tances where they will pay for it, then you are well on your way. That, to me, is the most important thing, and the difference between no hope and just endurance with an annoying insurance process. I'm not sure about mine right now, but it is looking like it MIGHT be that they do sometimes cover it, and the denial was they're sneaky attempt at turning "We just didnt receive enough info" into "we won't pay. period".
if you find the policy rhetoric for your plan you can send it to me and I'll try to help, or let me know if you have more questions that I can maybe answer
