UHC approval time

I was just told by my surgeon's coordinator that United Health Care takes up to 6 to 8 weeks for approval, oh, My?? is that your experience? 

It depends on your policy. I am a nurse for a bariatric surgeon in Knoxville, TN now. I send this off to insurances all day long. Some UHC policies come back the same day (State of TN employees) others take the full 30 days and then it only comes in the mail, they will not fax the approval over! I have had a few tell me they never received the info from us. Call your insurance and make sure they got it. Y our surgeons office should be able to tell you when they faxed it over and how many pages. I know I always keep the fax confirmation slip for reference later if needed. Then call UHC and tell them, "My doc's faxed you XX pages on xx day. I wanted to make sure it was received and forwarded to the correct department for review." Then get a reference number for your call. Call back in a few days and do the same thing. Keep doing it until you get an approval. I wish I had enough time in my day to make those calls! When it takes over 30 minutes to find out the info, it's just not possible when you have 300 plus patients on your list to send off to insurance on! Good luck! Bonnie lap rny 2005 264/154

I got mine in 4 days.  It took my best friend 2 months.  We both have UHC. Great advise from the previous post.

Well I got my denial in 48 hours.  So you could get your approval in the same time. did a nurse call you to ask you a couple of questions from UHC?

I didn't get any calls from anyone.  I was calling to make sure they had received my information.
