Have a ? over Tricare Prime.

I weigh 258 and I am 5'4 i was wondering with tricare prime i know what they list as of co morbidties but i do not have any of those the only thing that is wrong with me is that i have degenerative disc disease so is that considered a co morbidity even though it is not listed?  I am just worried i will get denied.  I have my first consultation on the 25th of march.   Please help.  thanks amanda

I also only had Degenerative Disk Disease and I was denied.  My PCP was suprised that DDD was not considered a co-morbidity .  I had to educate my PCM on what Tricare's co-morbidities are. I have since developed high blood pressure.  I don't seem to have the high blood pressure all the time, but was put on meds anyway. I would continue to have your blood pressue checked.  I think that how much salt I had that day contributed to my high blood pressure being high or normal.  I'm in the process of getting approved by Tricare.  The Bariatic Dr seems to think that my weight and high blood pressure will get me approved this time.

If you have the surgery done at a Military Treatment facility, tricare does not require co-morbs.  which is strange that they would outside.  i am waiting on my approval now, and am with a civilian surgeon and technically i have diabetes and PCOS so they concider them to be co-morbs.  I would appeal as my PCM actually works part time in the bariatric clinic at Walter Reed and she was the one to tell me that tricare does not require Co-morbs. 

You may have already got your answer to this but just in case. Tricare goes by the Met Weight Tables (copy here http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/met.htm ) to determine approval. Without co-morbs you need to be 200% over the smallest number for your ideal body weight. They go by medium frame unless your surgeon tells them otherwise. But with the medium frame you'd qualify. 124 x 2 equalling 248 lbs.  I was approved within 48 hrs, qualifying by 6 lbs.  HTH and good luck!
