Is this a myth?  I have not been able to find any insurance coverage like this.  I hear it mentioned around the boards, but no one has any contact info.  Does anyone know if this really exists or not? Leah

If you have coverage that covers the surgery complications are covered.  If not, and you pay cash etc. then complications are not covered, and thats a danger of cash pay.  I've really never heard of complication coverage and don think there is such a thing

Thanks, Gary, it certainly looks that way.  I guess I'll have to push to have my vsg covered by insurance. Leah

Hi Leah: Read this article from OH. Go to http://www.bliscompany.com/  for more info. Bottom line, yes, it does exist... but it's limited to a certain number of surgeons. "BLIS is a comprehensive financial solution designed to protect bariatric surgeons, their hospital, and their cash-pay patients from the financial consequences of known medical complications that are associated with weight loss surgery.  BLIS reduces financial uncertainty for everyone involved, thereby paving the way for a significant increase in the number of surgeries that can be performed."

Lap-Band June 14, 2001. Dr. Rumbaut, Monterrey, Mexico.
Lap-Band removed after 7 years and converted to Sleeve Gastrectomy on July 7, 2008 by Dr. Roslin.  I've had three happy healthy Lap-Band babies.... and one VSG baby.  5 years out from revision to VSG.  Gained 55 pounds in past 5 months, now considering DS. :(

Thanks, Sami.  I've seen this website, but I can't seem to find a list of affiliated surgeons. Not that it matters, b/c if I can't get the surgery covered by my insurance in the u.s. , I'm going to dr. alvarez in mexico. He guarantees that he will cover any complications free of charge, so I might just stay down there 2  weeks, until the likelihood of having a leak has passed.   Any other complications should be financially manageable, like dehydration or "ballooning" a stricture. Sounds good. One thing I like about Dr. Alvarez is that he hand-sews the sleeve over the staples.  Decreases your risk of leaks. :)
