Hi All, I was supposed to have surgery today... but my surgeons office didnt submit my insurance till last Friday, andthere was a problem and it wouldnt be approved by today, she told me Friday, UGH!  So I guess I am supposed to have documentation from my PCP that I had a 6 mo pre op diet.  OK so when I started this my doc put me on a low cal diet.  In August I weighed 330, went in about every month, and got weighed and now I weigh 282.  Also in 2005 I was on Meredia for 6 months with no success.  PLEASE help me to understand what my doc's pre op letter has to say!!!  Thanks, P.S. I have BCBS of MN

I hope you have this figured out already, if not here goes. You need to provide the monthly documentation for each visit of the 6 month diet to the insurance, a letter summarizing the diet by your doc, although nice, is not usually accepted as the only proof by insurance companies. I cannot believe your surgeons office did that to you, they should never have gotten your hopes up and gave you a date until you were approved! That is so mean! Good luck! Bonnie rny 264/155

Thankyou very much.  I do have an appt with my PCP.  When I started this journey in July of 07...my then PA told me to eat very low calories... and she sent me for blood work and to an endocronologist to check for other problems.  So the month I went there I didnt go to my PCP, the endo doc faxed my weight and vitals to my PA.  Even the endo suggested gastric bypass for me.  So should I get a copy of my visit there too???  The insurance co doesnt say 6 conseq. months, just 6 months in the past 2 years... And all the PA did was write down my vitals and weight.  She is now gone... anything else I can do to help this along???  THANKS!!!

The doc letter needs to be very detailed, how long you've been a patient, monthly weigh ins diets and drugs that you've tried and why this is your last resort.
