Aetna requirement changes?

I tried to copy and paste the clinical policy bullitin, but it wouldn't let me. Here is the link: http://www.aetna.com/cpb/medical/data/100_199/0157.html Anyway, I swear i thought previously it said 5 years of medical records were required. Now it says presence of severe obesity that has persisted for  at least the last 2 years.  Could someone look this over and see what they think, if indeed this is a change? Thanks in advance. Waiting hopefully ,

Missy

It appears to me that they have changed the CPB to require only 2 years of > 40 BMI or < 40 with co-morbs instead of the typical 5 years. Wow! What a huge step in the right direction on behalf of Aetna for future WLS patient's.  Cathie

Yes, that is my read as well. From 5 years documented severe obesity to 2. A HUGE change I believe.

I am so happy that ya'll have reinterated that this indeed is a change. This morning I woke up thinking it was just wishful thinking on my part,   since it was late last night when I rechecked the CPB. This makes it so much easier for me, as i didn't have the 5 years of documentation previously required.  This is fantastic news for Aetna patients. I wish I knew how to get the word out to others, as this is indeed can make a HUGE difference!

Perhaps post it as a "sticky" so it stays at the top of this page (where there are 5 others from Gary). You can taken it down after a while, but this way it doesn't get lost in the shuffle. Thanks for sharing, this is going to make a lot of people with Aetna very happy! Kahlua

Bama Mom you are doing a great job passing the word.  I have Aetna and this is goods news.  I am just getting started with the approval process.     I am sorry but I have to say it "War Eagle", okay and "Roll Tide"......

I just found out about this too.  This is great news!  I was so worried about approval because I was missing a weight from 2005.  Now that doesn't matter!  Thank you Aetna!
