Just got the call that I have been denied for skin removal due to reaccuring rashes and infections.  I had recommendation letters from my PCP, PS Doc, My therapist, my boss, and myself.  All of these letters stating the reaccurance of skin rashes, infections, and smell.  All of which stated the need to remove skin to cure.  In the end the insurance said that it was not medically neccessary.  I am crushed.  My PS office said the my PS doc will appeal, I asked what I could do and she said to sit tight.   So, I come here looking for advice.  I am not doing this to look better, I am doing this to get rid of rashes!  WHAT CAN I DO? Thanks

Unfortunately, it comes down to your insurer's criteria. I was denied from BCBS of TX because their cirteria is your pannus must hang below your pubis. It does not matter about rashes with BCBS of TX. So I was denied. You need to know the exact criteria. It will be on their web site or in the handbook, look up panniculectomy and find it. Bonnie
