Anyone with federal BC/BS

I went to a consultation today about having a revision surgery.  I was told that my insurance Federal BCBS require that I have a 5 year medical record.  I do not have this.  I've only had insurance for the last 1 1/2 years and I could not afford to go to the doctor without insurance.  Also, I was told by the person who does the insurance for the surgery clinic that my insurance require that I have had a BMI or 40 or more for 5 years.  Does anyone have any insight to this?  Right now I am so frustrated and I feel like wasted the $255.00 I was required to pay for the visit.

Vickie, Have you found out any info that can help me?  As you know I can't provide Federal BCBS with a 5 year medical history.  Thanks for any help you can offer.  Also is it true that Federal BCBS is easier to deal with as an insurance provider?

Darnell I di d check on it and they do require the 5 year medical history still, but I would have the surgeon go ahead and submit a request for authorzation of the surgery.   And have the surgeon explain that you do not have 5 years document of overweight.  When or if they deny you, you have the right to appeal with the Office of Personnel Management.   Check you Benefit booklet and it will tell you how to file an appeal with OPM.  But I would have the surgeon submit all information and also anything from you regular MD and go from there.   Vicki
