I have no idea about their practice with WLS, but I do know that a lot of people have problems with Humana on other precedures...we are currently looking to sue them for not paying my mother in law's chemo bill! I do wish you luck and hope that they treat you better than they have treated us!

Humana is the greatest.  I weighed 247, bmi 41.  Did all the testing, had a note from my doctor that I had lost 20 lbs in the past 6 months. The bariatric surgeons office told me approval would take 4-6 weeks.  I sighed. Then I called Humana and they told me once they had the paperwork, it would take 1 (ONE) day to be approved.  Yes, you read that correctly.   At two weeks I called and they said they had not received the paperwork yet.  Then I knew the hold up was the surgeon's office.  The next day, on a hunch, I called Humana again.  They said, "you are approved, we received the paper work late yesterday and approved you immediately. To make a long story, longer, I backed off the lapband procedure.  I just could not get my mind around the restrictive procedure with my esophageal ulcers and reflux.  Anyway that was July 2007. In October 2007, I saw a show on Discovery Health about the DS procedure and said, that's for me.  I found a local doctor online that weekend, called first thing Monday, made an appt for that week.  Upon leaving the NEW surgeon's office I asked the office personnel to get in touch with Humana, and they said I would probably have to go through approval all over again.  I laughed and said "just call them okay." Later the same day the surgeon's office called and told me Humana did not care WHICH weight loss surgery I choose, I was approved PERIOD.  They did not care which network doctor I used either.  And no new insurance code for DS either. Does it get any better than that?  I don't think so.  Call Humana, they are great. BTW, I have no co-morbidities, just a BMI over 40.     I was switched on January 7 and I am down 40 lbs.
