"slumping" to make your BMI higher?
I'm going for my consultation in a few weeks, and my BMI is 39.2. I am 5'5", but if I don't stand up straight and tall, I'm 5'4", which puts my BMI at 40. My insurance requires co-morbidities if I'm under 40, so I'm thinking "slumping" when they do my height at weight at my consultation might make insurance approval go much more quickly. Does this sound crazy? I mean, either I gain 8 pounds or I slump. I don't want to gain more weight! Did they actually measure your height when you went in, or did they just take whatever you wrote down?
HELP! :)Michelle
Well if they measure you, and you choose to slump, dont be too obvious. I was measuring my nephew the other day and noticed he had his chin up really high (trying to be taller). I made him look straight, and his height went UP a tad. Then I asked him to tuck his chin down and his height went up a little higher! Not much, only about 1/2 inch difference, but he's young. It has something to due with where on the head the level sits. So maybe play around at home and have someone measure you with you head in different positions (if using a ruler, make sure the one end is plumb against the wall, like an "L" turned on the side). But if the only way to "change" your ht is by really tucking in your chin far, they may notice. Sometimes they're too busing looking for a reading.
Good luck,
