I have UHC choice plus.  I just submitted my request for insurance on friday and now I am waiting. how long has others had to wait?  The dr office said that it might take about 30 to 45 days.   I dont think that I can wait that long.

I have UHC also.  My drs. office said 4-6 weeks.  I hope it doesn't take that long.  I think my paperwork will be going in by the end of this week.  Good luck and keep us posted.

I will actually give UHC some credit!  They have been turning around my pre-d's within the month. I am a nurse with a bariatric surgeon's office and do this for 90% of my job. I am not sure if it is the wonderful organization of my pre-determination packets that go out (ha ha) or they are on their game, but we have been getting our approvals quickly.  If all your info is there, you met the criteria, did the supervised diet, etc, then just relax, you will be approved! Good luck--It's worth the wait! Bonnie 264/155

Some UHC policies have no MSD (medically supervised diet) at all.  If the customer service rep cannot help you, ask for a supervisor. Specifically ask if a MSD is required, what else is required too. It is in their medical policy manual, the customer service reps just dont know where to look. You can also ask for someone in pre-authorizations.  The ones who do have a consecutive 6 month diet/exercise program required. This must be supervised by an MD or nut. Each monthly visit should document your weight and vital signs, the diet you are following, the exercise you are doing, etc. They also usually want the 5 year weight history that Aetna requires too. Good luck! Bonnie
