Help!! Blue Cross Blue Shield. Blue Distinction Center

I am really freaking out tonight. I am supposed to have surgery Monday and the people at the hospital have screwed up my insurance somehow. I have Blue Cross Blue Shield federal (PPO) and am going to a Blue Distinction Center (Shasta Regional) for surgery. The lady tells me tonight that it could be $5000 out-of pocket. This can't be right. So far I have paid for my surgeon (total with deductible $438) and my inpatient copay ($300 for 3 days). I can't believe that my out-of pocket at a preferred provider would be $5000 for the OR.
Does anyone have any feedback? I am about ready to cry. Of course, by the time I got this news it was too late to call the insurance company because they were closed. Something just doesn't seem right.

Paul,  I have printed this for my reference. Does this really work?  I know alot of people who go to the hospital where I am going for surgery stated they had to pay up front a so called deductible of almost $2000+. I will call my insurance company tomorrow AGAIN to get clarification one more time.  I do not have the funds up front should I have to pay out of pocket.  I can do a payment plan, but coming up with money before then is an issue right now. I have my PAT's this Thursday so I can let you know if they required or demanded me to pay anything.  I will do exactly as you stated in this post, but I fear I will come up against resistance. What should I do if I do?

I had my surgery last month. Because I had not met my deductible, my totl out-of -pocket ended up being $539. That included the surgery and the hospital stay. If I had met my deductible, my cost would only have been $239. I would definitely check. As in my case, mistakes can be made with billing.
